Sic transit gloria mundi (the full expression) = Thus passes the world's
glory. Loosely, "Thus fades the world's glory".

In this context: Gloria Swanson was scheduled to make a guest appearance in
a Broadway show, unfortunately there were complications on the New York
subway system and the organizers postponed her appearance to Monday.
The Daily News headlined the rescheduling as follows: Sic transit, Gloria
Monday.
